Jan Shilletto
Jan Shilletto lives in Northwest Cove where she paints in and around the community, particularly enjoying the observation process and taking the time to discover her surroundings. She paints or draws a subject that moves her, or tells a story, and tries to interpret this in visual ‘words’.
Though mainly self-taught, Jan has taken courses through Seneca College, North York Board of Education, Schneider School of Fine Art and through workshops.
Workshops attended in Nova Scotia have been with Steve Rhude, Ron Hazell, Tom Ward, Jeannie Hancock, Michael Fernandes, Susan Vitale, Don Pentz, Barbara McLean, Regina Coupar, Susan Hudson and Kay Stanfield. Others have been with Carl Schaefer, Alex Sharma and Barry Coombs.
Corporate collections include Petro-Canada, Suncor, Canadian Tire, North York General Hospital and Government House, Jamaica.

Jan is a founding member of Aspotogan Arts & Crafts, formed in the spring of 2000 with membership from the Aspotogan Peninsula and area, and a member of Visual Arts Nova Scotia.
She has taught art through Chester Municipality, Ocean Swells Community Centre, and has been Artist in the Classroom at Shatford Memorial School, Hubbards for the last 8 years.
Jan has organized Aspotogan Painting Workshops for the past 8 years, bringing groups of painters together from across North America for a week’s painting experience on the Aspotogan Peninsula, with a different well-known instructor each year. She continues to enjoy the energy that results when painters of many styles and levels come together.
